Northwest Airlines Increases Ticket Change Fee; To Start Charging For 1st
Checked Bag.
Northwest Airlines Corp. is the latest airline to increase fees because of
high oil prices.

The airline says it will begin charging $15 for the first checked bag for
tickets purchased starting July 10, 2008, for travel starting August 28, 2008,
in the US and Canada. The fee for the first checked bag matches four other
carriers who implemented the fee this year - Spirit, American, United and US
Airways.
The airline is adding a "service fee" for booking tickets using
frequent-flier miles. The fee applies to travel on or after Sept. 15. It will
charge $25 for domestic tickets, $50 for trans-Atlantic tickets, and $100 for
trans-Pacific travel.
Also beginning on July 10, Northwest's fee for changing domestic
nonrefundable tickets will rise to $150 from $100. International ticket change
fees will increase by an additional $50 to $150 per ticket, depending on class
of service and other restrictions.
