US Airways Joins United And Continental By Charging $150 Per Ticket Domestic Change Fee

Arlington, TX -- April 28, 2008 - Last week on Saturday, April 19, United increased the change fee from $100 to $150 on tickets for travel within the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.

United also raised their international change fees to from $200 to $250 per ticket to Europe, Asia, South America and Australia, while codeshare partner Lufthansa matched the change fee increase to Europe.

On Thursday, April 24, Continental Airlines raised their change fee by $50 for both domestic and international travel. US Airways also matched this new change fee.

As of early this morning, no other U.S. or international airline has matched these new change fees for either domestic or international travel. The difference in change fees now varies greatly among the major carriers. Southwest Airlines continues to have the most liberal domestic change fee policy. On Southwest, if you need to make a change and the airfare and advance purchase are the same there is NO fee.

Listed below are the domestic change fee policies of the major U.S. airlines:

Southwest Airlines: FREE

Virgin America: $40 per ticket

JetBlue: $50 per ticket

Spirit Airlines: $60 per ticket (online bookings) / $70 per ticket (bookings via airport/reservations/travel agents)

American Airlines: $100 per ticket.

Delta Air Lines: $100 per ticket

Frontier Airlines: $100 per ticket

Midwest Airlines: $100 per ticket

Northwest Airlines: $100 per ticket

US Airways: $150 per ticket

Continental Airlines: $150 per ticket

United Airlines: $150 per ticket
