The last time Southwest Airlines offered airfares as low as $25 one-way was 13 years ago. This occurred during July 1996 for their 25th anniversary sale.
The first travel season is December 2 thru December 16, 2009 which is the two off peak travel weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The second travel period is between January 5 and February 10, 2010 . What a way to kick off the 2010 travel season with the same low airfares.

This is the second time this year Southwest Airlines has sent a salvo of cheap airfares across America. On Tuesday, July 7, 2009, Southwest Airlines offered a two day sale on short-haul flights for $30 one-way and coast to coast for $80 one-way.
The demand for this Southwest Airlines airfare sale was so strong that it actually put their website in a shutdown mode for over an hour.
With the competition so fierce today to lure air travelers, we expect that by 10:00 am Central, that American Airlines, Delta Airlines, Northwest Airlines, United Airlines, Continental Airlines, US Airways and Alaska Airlines to respond and quickly match these new low airfares.
We also expect low-cost carriers such as AirTran Airways, jetBlue Airways, Virgin America and Frontier Airlines will be forced to reduce their airfares to match the new low fares of Southwest Airlines.
When you need a ghostbuster of an airfare travel deal, "Who ya gonna call?" Southwest Airlines.
