American Airlines & United Airlines Offers Double Elite Air Miles For Travel Thru December 15, 2009!

American Airlines & United Airlines Offers Double Elite Air Miles For Travel Thru December 15, 2009, You Could Check Bags For Free & Get Cheap Upgrades!

On September 2, 2009, American Airlines launched, for the second time this year, Double Elite Air Miles and United Airlines quickly matched.

You first need to understand that there is a difference between Double Air Miles and Double Elite Air Miles.

When airlines offer double air miles, you receive double air miles when you fly on select routes, or between a select time period.

The air miles you earn can be used toward free tickets, and free airline awards, such as ticket upgrades etc.

American Airlines and United Airlines offers Double Elite Status. You can earn enough miles to qualify for Elite States on your first, second, or third trip. The biggest perk is free checked bags for you and your traveling companion.

Double Elite Miles is a whole different ballgame.  The miles you earn are applied directly to your account to qualify for Gold Status, Premier Status and above.

For example, American Airlines and United Airlines require you to fly, or earn 25,000 Elite Miles to qualify for their first tier of Elite Status.  For American Airlines its called "Gold" and for United Airlines it's called "Premier".

Once you earn that status, you and all of your traveling companions (flying on the same trip and record) get your first two checked bags fees waived.

You can also book "Emergency Row" seats and special isle and window seats in the front of the plane.

Avoid those long check-in lines and go to the priority line where you will save time and be one of the first to board after First Class priority boarding.

For United Airlines perks for Premier Status, or higher please, click here.

Now that we got this out of the way, a trip to Europe, Asia, or Australia on United Airlines could give you almost enough Elite Miles to qualify for the first level of Elite Status.

With new baggage fees continuing to go up, you might be wise to try and qualify for at least the first level, especially if you travel several times a year.
