Major airlines are expected to lose over 9 billion dollars this year. We do expect the major airlines will cut back on capacity this fall and winter.

We also know that the airlines want to raise airfares and today United Airlines is giving us and the other airlines notice of what they think domestic airfares should be.
What United wants and what United gets are two different things. When you see the prices they want for this sale you almost think we are in a time warp or on a different planet. This sale requires a 21 day advance purchase. You can't fly until August 17 which begins the slower, less in demand fall season and you must complete travel by September 7, 2009, Labor Day.
Now this may be a Labor Day sale but I think you will do much better with our airfare sales being offered currently by Southwest and AirTran which by the way United has matched their prices.
This is a very confusing airfare sale. We believe it's a message of what might come this fall but, I expect many of you will stay home before paying as must as double what you would pay today.
Listed below are the current roundtrip sale airfares which American, Delta, AirTran, Continental, and US Airways have all matched.
The good news as long as we have competition you should be able to fly across America at a reasonable price.
