Today, June 15, 2009, my wife was returning from Tampa to Dallas with two 14 year olds. The thought never entered their minds that a very small snowglobe was on a TSA hit list. TSA
states on their website that some snowglobes may have harmful chemicals in them.
So
the little girl who spent $13 for a snowglobe to bring home to her mom was
denied.
My wife then went to the gift shop to get some reading material and, to her surprise,
the gift shop was loaded with 24 dangerous souvenir snowglobes that may contain potential hazardous materials. So my wife
went back to the TSA and told them about all the dangerous snow globes in the
gift shop.
TSA answer was "That's not our responsibility". I
thought TSA was there to protect us 100%, including those dangerous
snowglobes behind security.
Let's see... snowglobes are dangerous if you bring them through security and
take them on the airplane but, because some magic fairy behind security waves a
wand over the snowglobes in the gift shop, now they are harmless to travel on an
airplane. I think I get it.
After she called me I checked online for the list of food and gifts that the
TSA says you "should" put them in your checked luggage. I hate
the word "should". Does it mean you "must" put them in your
checked bag? If so, then they should say MUST.
The TSA also says that even if your liquid is under 3 ounces,
no men's cologne and ladies perfume is allowed. Also, no one is allowed to carry on wine,
liquor, or beer.
For a full list of items that can be confiscated by the TSA such as food,
gifts and prohibited items see the links below. Oh by the way no axes, swords,
or grenades either.

For really prohibited items please, click

P.S. A couple of years ago, under the liquids prohibited rule, you could not
bring cigarette lighters onboard. After confiscating as many as 20,000 lighters
a day, the TSA gave in and now permits cigarette lighters, except those that work
like blow torches.
Now, where can I get 20,000 kids a day to carry snowglobes?
